Wyn 5 String Bass Randall Wyn Fullmer Guitar

This custom 5-string Wyn bass was hand built June 17, 2010 by Randall Wyn Fullmer, a highly respected boutique luthier whose instruments are known for their artistic individuality, exceptional ergonomics, and expressive tonal response. Before dedicating himself full time to building instruments, Fullmer spent many years working at Disney, contributing his talents to major animated productions. That creative background is evident in the organic shaping, dramatic wood figuring, and sculptural aesthetic seen throughout his bass designs. Each Wyn instrument was individually crafted in small numbers, making them increasingly desirable among collectors and serious players, especially since Fullmer has since passed away, permanently limiting the number of instruments that will ever exist.

This particular example was custom built for bassist Eric “PikFunk" Smith, a groove-focused player known for blending funk, soul, and modern styles with clarity and feel. The bass reflects that musical versatility, offering a strong fundamental, excellent articulation, and a wide tonal palette thanks to its Aguilar active electronics. The neck-through construction enhances sustain and stability, while the carefully selected tonewoods provide both visual depth and balanced resonance across all five strings.

Visually, the bass stands apart with its striking figured wood top and naturally dramatic grain patterns, giving the instrument an almost one-of-a-kind appearance. The carved body contours allow for comfortable playability, while the extended upper horn improves balance and positioning whether seated or standing.
