This 2004 Washburn DIME36 G17 Dimebag Darrell Signature is one of the wildest and hardest-to-find guitars from the final chapter of Dimebag’s relationship with Washburn. Finished in the unmistakable Red Alien graphic, this guitar combines Dime’s enormous angular body design with a blood-red background, black accents and a sinister green alien figure across the lower half. The matching graphic headstock, lightning-bolt details and oversized Washburn Dime logo complete a design that could only have come from the mind of Dimebag Darrell.
According to period specifications, the DIME36 G17 was built with a basswood body, set mahogany neck, 22-fret rosewood fingerboard, 24¾" scale length, Grover 18:1 tuners and a fixed string-through-body bridge. The set-neck construction and large body give it plenty of natural resonance and sustain, while the fixed bridge makes it a stable, straightforward alternative to Dime models equipped with locking tremolos. Its serial number, 04056547, is consistent with 2004 production, and the model designation is still clearly visible on the original truss-rod cover.
This particular guitar is equipped with a zebra humbucker at the neck and a Seymour Duncan high-output rail-style humbucker at the bridge. The bridge pickup appears to be a Dimebucker, making it especially appropriate for this model. It produces a tight, aggressive attack with plenty of output for thick palm-muted riffs, screaming harmonics and sharp, cutting leads. The neck pickup provides a warmer and fuller voice, giving the guitar more range than its brutally aggressive appearance might suggest. With two volume controls, a master tone and three-way selector, the layout follows the practical arrangement Dime favored on many of his signature instruments.
The DIME36 G17 is more than another Dime-inspired guitar...it is an authentic Washburn signature model from the end of an important era. Dimebag spent much of the 1990s and early 2000s playing Washburn guitars, and these late-period models represent some of the last official Washburn designs to carry his name before his return to Dean. Production was limited to a short period, and the Red Alien graphic is considerably less common than the familiar lightning, slime and burst finishes seen on other Dime models.
This guitar was built for heavy riffs, high-gain amplifiers and players who want something completely removed from the usual Strat, Tele or Les Paul. It looks absolutely enormous onstage, balances the outrageous graphics with genuinely useful hardware and delivers the aggressive response expected from a Dimebag signature model. These rarely appear for sale, especially with the graphic and identifying parts intact, so snag it before another Dimebag fan adds it to their collection.
