This 2006 Dean Dimebag “Dean From Hell” ML captures one of the most recognizable guitars in heavy-metal history. Based on the legendary lightning-bolt ML that Dimebag Darrell played throughout Pantera’s rise, this early reissue features Dean’s massive ML body, set neck, 24¾" scale length, 22-fret rosewood fingerboard, Grover tuners, dual humbuckers, locking tremolo system and Dime’s familiar three-knob control layout. The blue, black and white lightning graphic is pure Cowboys from Hell—there is absolutely no mistaking what this guitar was built to do.
These 2006 examples are especially interesting because they come from the earliest period of Dean’s imported Dean From Hell production. The serial number, Y06010033, is consistent with a 2006 manufacture date, and this guitar retains the period-correct Grover tuners, licensed locking tremolo, zebra neck humbucker and high-output blade-style bridge pickup shown in the photos. Dean’s advertising centered this model around recreating the appearance, feel and aggressive character of Dimebag’s famous original instrument.
Plugged into a high-gain amplifier, this guitar delivers exactly the attitude its appearance promises. The bridge pickup is hot, tight and aggressive, giving palm-muted riffs plenty of punch while keeping fast leads clear and cutting. Switch to the neck pickup and it has a fuller, smoother voice for fluid soloing and heavier rhythm work. The locking tremolo is ready for squeals, dives and all the controlled chaos that belongs on a Dime-inspired guitar.
This one shows honest cosmetic wear from being played, which honestly suits a Dean From Hell far better than a spotless case queen. It has the look, feel and attitude that Pantera and Dimebag fans want, while remaining a legitimately fun metal guitar that begs to be turned up loud. If you have always wanted a blue lightning ML hanging from your shoulder...or you simply want a guitar built for riffs, dive bombs and unapologetically heavy playing...this is the one. Early 2006 examples do not appear every day, so snag it before another Dime fan adds it to their arsenal. You’ll be glad you did, and once you have it in your hands, you probably won’t want to put it down.
