A little bit about the luthier John Saunders from his obituary : " John worked as an electronics engineer at various leading companies including Oxford International, AeroJet (where he was nominated for Engineer of the Year), Hewlett Packard and Abbott Labs. John had a lifelong love of music and started his own business designing bass guitars out of his garage in Upland, CA. He later became a consulting engineer for Tobias Guitars."
