Ken McKay SG '61 Reissue Cherry Electric Guitar

This Ken McKay SG ’61 Reissue captures the look and feel of an early SG in a beautiful translucent cherry finish that lets the wood grain show through. Weighing just 6 lbs 11 oz, it’s comfortable to play standing up or sitting down, and the double-cutaway body gives you easy access all the way up the neck. The neck measures .89" at the 1st fret and .99" at the 12th, with a comfortable profile that gradually fills out as you move toward the upper frets.

A set of Seymour Duncan Antiquity humbuckers gives this guitar the clear, open character players love in vintage-style pickups. They sound sweet and articulate played clean, then deliver plenty of bite and growl when you turn up the amp. Each pickup has its signed baseplate and numbered sticker, though we have not confirmed a production year from those numbers.

The guitar features a vintage-style control layout with individual volume and tone controls for each pickup, braided pickup leads, a tune-o-matic bridge, stopbar tailpiece, and Kluson Deluxe tuners. A handwritten note from Ken McKay reading “Enjoy this guitar” is pictured with the instrument.

There are light surface marks and minor finish wear from use, as shown in the photos. If you’ve been looking for a lightweight SG-style guitar with a substantial, comfortable neck and a great set of Seymour Duncan Antiquities, this one is going to be a joy to get in your hands.
